Remember John A Shaw? He was the Deputy Undersecretary of Defense from the Pentagon who, back in October, claimed that the reason there were no WMDs left in Iraq was because Russian special forces had spirited them out just days before the invasion.
His claims, of course, were complete rubbish.
And now, for his sins, he’s lost his job. The Pentagon says that his job has simply been made redundant. Mr Shaw, however, thinks differently. He reckons he was fired:
Mr. Shaw said he had been asked to resign for "exceeding his authority" in disclosing the information, a charge he called "specious."
Either way, he’s gone. And good riddance too.
