At a White House press briefing this morning, President Bush revealed his plans to follow Russian President Vladimir Putin’s example, and extend his autocratic rule of the United States of America:
Reporter: Mr. President, following up on Vladimir Putin for a moment, he said recently that next year, when he has to step down according to the constitution, as the president, he may become prime minister; in effect keeping power and dashing any hopes for a genuine democratic transition there …
Bush: I’ve been planning that myself.
Given the dismally low quality of Republican contenders for the top job so far this election cycle, I don’t think he’d face all that much opposition. In fact can hear the chants beginning already: “Four more years! Four more years!”

The only “four more years” slogan I’ve seen related to Bush was on a t-shirt in New York City superimposed over a map of Iraq…
A more common bumper sticker seems to be “1.20.09 [inauguration day for Bush's successor] – the end of an error.” But the comments to the Salon piece you linked are interesting – not that online commenters are a representative sample of the population (!), but some of them seem to be in freak-out mode about this.
As usual, the Bush Administration has been its own worst enemy, PR-wise, by promulgating a document that seems to have provided the basis for some paranoia. Perhaps inept PR is another way that Bush has been following in Putin’s footsteps.
Whatever the “inept PR” on the Russian government funded side: it doesn’t relate so much to paranoia as it does to sheer stupidity.
Offhand, I’m immediately reminded of two primary examples among them.
After reading your article on attacking Russia, I am offended that such a country as Russia is being discredited like this, I am an American but even I think this is offensive to write such an editorial about Russia.
First of all Russia is a superpower, they have the world’s largest nuclear weapon arsenal, 10 times greater than the US, Russia’s economy is stronger than the US, BBC news reported this recently. Third they are an energy super giant and their military has been continuing to update in all forces of the 21 century weapons compared to the US and they have every domain of power in ideological, diplomatic and technological fronts. Russia is a superpower because they have the economics, the wealth, the diplomatic power, ideological, technological advances than any other country besides the US, they have the cultural sector and lets not forget their military levels (surpreme). Russia’s nuclear arsenal weapons are 10 times greater than the US.
