We're over the moon, Vladimir!

As Chechnya week continues on Siberian Light (because everything else Russian seems rather pale by comparison right now) it’s time for a shift of focus towards some good news from the war torn region.

Terek Grozny, the capital’s recently reformed football club, has upset the form book to reach the Russian Cup Final. Wednesday’s shock 2-1 victory over favorites Shinnik Yaroslavl means they will go on to face Krylya Sovietov Samara on the 29th for their shot at sporting glory.

“It has been a dream not only for me and my players but for the whole Chechen people,” said Terek coach Vait Talgayev.

“Now we have to get ready for the final. I’m sure we’ll have a great support from Chechens living in Moscow. It’ll be fun playing there.”

Their achievement is all the more impressive when you consider that, not only have they been in existence for just three short years, but that they suffer the additional burden of having to play all their “home” games outside of Chechnya.
