Central Asia blog Registan.net reports that it has been blocked to internet users in Uzbekistan. The only way to read Registan from within the Uzbekistan is now by proxy server. Nathan writes:
As far as we are aware, this is the first time that the Uzbek government has decided to block Registan.net, and it is unknown if this block is permanent or temporary.
It would be nice to think it was just a temporary technical hiccup…

Given how things have been going in Uzbekistan lately, I doubt it’s a temporary thing.
Bertrand’s comment on the post was a very good one. He’s right that those in Uzbekistan who read my blog likely know how to circumvent the censors. I assume that the powers that be know that, so the fact that they’d still block an English language site written by a guy who writes long, complicated sentences shows how intent on walling itself off the Uzbek government is.
