Have you ever wanted to know what I think about Russia’s relations with the European Union? What foreign policy the US should adopt in relations with Russia? Whether China would get Russian support if it invadedTaiwan? Whether Vladimir Putin is one of my political heroes, or whether I’m starry eyed about Gorbachev? Whether I think Chechnya has an earthly of remaining within Russia, or how much I like Mongolia?
Well, you could read this blog, of course. But, if you feel the need to have my opinion on pretty much everything under the sun wrapped up in one neat package, check out my Andres Gentry profile which has just been published.
And if, by the end of the profile, I haven’t managed to offend at least half of you with my nutty opinions, I will be forced to conclude that I am very boring indeed.

While I disagree with many of your opinions and statements, I admire your ability to stay out of ideological closemindedness, which mire most of the MSM reporting.
There is a great need of fresh outside view on Russia, but when a foreign reporter arrives in Russia, usually he soon finds himself deep in one of the political camps. Thus, Lavelle is a more putinist than Putin, while most of the MSM reporters are more yablochniks than Yavlinski. The same, albeit to a lesser extent, is with think-tank analysts. Somehow bloggers (and you as a blogger-in-chief in Russia category) manage to evade such a fate.
Thanks for the compliments, Mike!
I try to remain balanced, but I’d have to say that I’m moving pretty firmly into the anti-Putin camp. Although he’s done some good things for Russia, I think that, on balance, he is doing more damage than good right now.
I’ve just noticed you have a new blog. I’ve added it to the blogroll & I’ll put up a quick post linking to it over the next couple of days.
