Karadzic wife sues NATO

by Andy on February 7, 2004

NATO troops still haven’t managed to apprehend Radovan Karadzic, almost eight years after the end of the Bosnian war. Their latest attempt has been condemned by his wife, Liljana, who is currently suing NATO for causing $20,000 of damage to their property.

Of course, NATO is going to cause some damage to property in its hunt, but more worrying was the following complaint made by the Bosnian Serb police force…

According to a police spokesman in Pale, Nato troops forced two officers to walk in front of them as they raided one of the Karadzic houses – apparently in case they came under fire.

Is it true? Who knows. But the longer the hunt for Karadzic goes on, the more raids NATO undertakes, the greater the chance of some innocent civilian (or Bosnian Serb policeman) getting hurt in the crossfire. NATO would be much better off putting serious pressure on the Serbian leadership to give the man up, rather than trying to fool the press that they are still actively searching for Karadzic by mounting expensive, dangerous, and ultimately futile raids.
