The Chinese have often been accused of being reluctant peacekeepers.
But, no more. Courtesy of the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Daily News, I can now reveal that Chinese peacekeepers are active throughout the globe, singing songs, making their beds, and wearing straw hats.
Sadly, like most other countries that contribute to peacekeeping operations, they are also taking casualties. Four Chinese peacekeepers have died over the last decade or so, in the course of their duties.
So, whatever we may think of the cynical political motivations behind the involvement of some states in peacekeeping operations, I’d just like to take my straw hat off for a moment, in respect of good people, who give their lives in far off lands, for people they don’t know.
